Sumario:The objective of this work is to analyze the profile of the priests who lived in Mariana during the moviment of the Catholic Church Reform in the nineteenth century. The Ultramontanism, whose greatest exponent in Minas Gerais was Bishop Dom Antonio Ferreira Viçoso, started at an earlier time. The measures that have been undertaken by his predecessor, Bishop Dom Frei José da Santíssima Trindade, propelled the romanization of the local clergy. So, we established as main chronological marks of the dissertation the begining of the 1820until the year of 1875, corresponding the length of two bishoprics. The sources used were one conjunt of Inventários Post-Mortem and the Lista Nominativa de 1831. These documents show that even before policies changes in clerical positions and their production ofbooks related to ultramontane´s ideas, the local clergy had a religious library and some specialized households towards for the priestly occupation. There were those who practiced other activities in addition to the priesthood, as an form of supplementary income to thepriesthood, or even as the main source of their earnings.
