Descrição
Resumo:Phyllanthus niruri Linn. is a medicinal herb belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae, known in Brazil as quebra-pedra. This plant has been used in traditional to treatment of kidney stones. At this work were evaluated the chromatographic profile and the quantification of secondary metabolites like gallic acid, corilagin and ellagic acid by chromatographic techniques such as TLC and UPLC-DAD in aqueous, ethanolic and hexane-ethyl acetate extracts from different organs (stem, root, leaf, flower+fruit) of P. niruri and aerial parts harvested in different months of the year. It was also obtained an aqueous extract of P. niruri and its fractions for evaluation by in vitro action on formation of calcium oxalate crystals. The results showed qualitative differences in chemical profiles between aerial parts and roots, and absence of qualitative differences in the chromatographic profile during seasonal evaluation, as well as positive correlations between content of secondary metabolites and rainfall, representing important information for the productive chain of medicinal plant extracts. Moreover, the extract and fractions evaluated by in vitro assays have been demonstrated activity in the process of calcium oxalate crystals formation, such as increasing the number of crystals and decreasing the crystals area, and the n-butanol fraction appears as the most active. The high amount of flavonoids in the n-butanol fraction, as well as the results obtained for quercetin by in vitro assays suggest the flavonoids can be related with the action in the process of crystallization. Thus this work contributes to the standardization of the extract of P. niruri with critical information for the quality of the herbal medicine, as well as the aqueous extract and the fractions can be used like an alternative for the therapy of urolithiasis
