| Sumario: | This article considers the role of witches and sorceresses, as well as their magical objects, in the book A escolhida (2014), by Lois Lowry. The article includes representations of female witches and the persecution suffered by them mainly in the Middle Ages. Throughout history, they have been accused, tortured and exterminated, due to the supposed witchcraft practiced by them and because they possess countless and vast knowledge. The book's analysis combines the figures of the sorceress and the weaver, intertwined with experiences of seduction and magic, placing important female mythological figures in the context of analysis. The protagonist of A escolhida, following the lineage of her ancestral sisters, witches and weavers, opens a new cosmogonic and historical cycle with her magical art. |
