| Sumario: | This work is directed to the study of idiomatic expressions collected in the speech of residents of the rural area of Patos - PI. With this study, it was intended to identify the idioms present in the speech patoense, to ascertain how these expressions occur in different forms of communication, to highlight the purpose for which speakers use this phraseological unit and to point out how these lexical aspects value culture and customs. of the speakers.
