| Sumario: | Losing primary teeth early can cause serious changes in the development of occlusion, the use of a space maintainer can minimize these changes. The aim of this study was to report a clinical case on the use of a band-loop space maintainer in early loss of deciduous teeth. A 6-year-old female patient attended the FAVENORTE dental clinic, where her mother reported the appearance of a “bubble near the tooth”. A Free and Informed Consent Term was given to the person responsible for the patient to carry out the procedures and use the images. On clinical examination, a fistula on the left side was identified in the region of the deciduous molars, where tooth 74 had an occlusal-distal carious lesion. On radiographic examination, a radiolucent area was observed in the furcation region of tooth 74, which extended throughout the distal root. We opted for the extraction of tooth 74 and installation of a fixed band-loop space maintainer. Thirteen months of follow-up after installation of the device, it was possible to observe that the space was preserved for the eruption of the permanent tooth. In the case reported, the space maintainer fulfilled its function, being a treatment option for non-collaborating patients, as it is a fixed device. |
