| Sumario: | This work aims to study the feasibility of solar desalination asymmetric compound parabolic basin, ie analyze the efficiency in the conversion of brackish water into potable water for human consumption in areas of difficult access, as well as to study the transport phenomena involved. The methodology used for development of the project consists in characterizing the geometry of the basin and cover system, and perform a physical examination - chemical sample and distilled scale and build desalination equipment operating on the same equal footing the four desalination plants, for treatment of the data on the ecological and economic assessment. The alimentation of desalination was performed with seawater collected in the bay of St. Joseph of Ribamar for coordinates 2 ° 33\'23, 62 \"S 44 ° 03\'11, 48 within 12 months. Were monitored water temperatures and temperatures glasses, as well as the data of solar radiation, air humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, cloudiness and the mass flow of condensate. After treatment of the data found that the desalter asymmetrical, with angles of inclination 20 ° and 45 °, operated between January 6, 2012 to April 10 2012, in two phases, totaling 24 experiments during this period, was the solar distiller with improved performance, both for operations with high and low cloudiness. Presented an average daily production of 3.32 L / m² d of distillate, with an efficiency of 59.66% for an average radiation of 534.87 W / m² and production cost of R$ 0.0437 per liter of distillate. The quality of the distillate with respect to physicochemical parameters evaluated in this study is compatible with Class 3 freshwater CONAMA (Resolution 357 - Ordinance 517 of the Ministry of Health). By exposure to solar distillation presented in this research is the feasibility of water for human consumption, considering the technical and environmental aspects, and also economically viable.
