Sumario:In order to identify possible shallow caves and associated structures, the Geological Survey of Brazil developed a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) study to verify the occurrence of reflection patterns chacteristic of a history of collapse in the city of Criciúma in Santa Catarina state. The GPR results obtained with shielded antennas (multifrequency) showed a characterization of areas of collapse of the terrain, to a maximum depth of 2,5 meters. Thus, GPR proved to be a important tool in locating possible areas of sinkholes in the Criciúma region.
