Descripción
Sumario:The article proposes an interpretation of “Pierre Menard, author of the Quixote”, the short story published by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges in 1939, as a satire of habits and practices of French literary circles in the eve of the Second World War. With the analysis of newspaper stories, reviews and other writings of Borges, his positions on the European political scenario are reconsidered, with emphasis on aspects usually neglected by his commentators. Thus, the short story’s internal references are articulated on an interpretative basis that presupposes the debate on war and peace between intellectuals of the 1930s.
