Descrição
Resumo:This article seeks to analyse territorial expansion and social development in the north of the state of Tocantins based on the experiences of the Apinayé indigenous people. The geographical area in question comprises the Bico do Papagaio micro-region, which is part of the Legal Amazon. In methodological terms, the analysis was qualitative, and the research was based on a bibliographical review that considered the perspective of development oriented towards substantive freedoms in relation to territorial expansion in the region analysed. The preliminary results show that the Amazon’s natural resources cannot continue to be exploited without major changes in various sectors of Brazilian society. Particularly, a different view of the Amazon is required, given the importance of nature, not only for the inhabitants of the region investigated, but also for the Brazilian population.
