| Summary: | This article aims to describe the ease and difficulties inherent to the process of teaching and learning English as an FL by deaf students in a bilingual school located in Brasília- DF. The theoretical framework is based on discussions about the deaf subject, their language and culture, as well as on the teaching and learning process. Observations of classes, interviews and questionnaires were carried out to four deaf students and two English teachers in the observed school. The data indicate the need to use teaching methodologies that contemplate the linguistic and cultural specificities of the deaf, especially regarding the use of the Brazilian Sign Language in this process. |
