Table tennis is a sport that arrived in São Paulo at the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, it is common to associate its development with the Japanese colony, perhaps there are two immigrants and descendants of other nationalities who are behind important advances in the practice of rackets in their competitive format. This historiographical research aims to structure the Italian roots of table tennis in São Paulo, based on a qualitative and exploratory approach to the literature relevant to the topic, combined with documentary analyzes of the days of the period available on the Digital Library of Newspapers website. It is confirmed that between the decades of 1910 and 1930, unions, managers and players from the Italian colony occupied prominent positions in sports circles, in addition to being important for the process of democratization of the sport. Actualmente es común asociar su desarrollo con la colonia japonesa, quizás sean dos inmigrantes y descendientes de otras nacionalidades los que están detrás de importantes avances en la práctica de las raquetas en su formato competitivo. Esta investigación historiográfica tiene como objetivo estructurar las raíces italianas del tenis de mesa en São Paulo, a partir de un enfoque cualitativo y exploratorio de la literatura relevante al tema, combinado con análisis documentales de los días del período disponibles en el sitio web de la Biblioteca Digital de Periódicos. Se constata que, entre las décadas de 1910 y 1930, sindicatos, directivos y jugadores de la colonia italiana ocuparon posiciones destacadas en los círculos deportivos, además de ser importantes para el proceso de democratización del deporte. Después de años de esta investigación, se espera que contribuya no sólo a las discusiones sobre el asociacionismo y el protagonismo de los inmigrantes italianos en el ámbito deportivo [...].O tênis de mesa é uma modalidade esportiva que chegou a São Paulo durante o início do século XX. Atualmente, é comum associar o seu desenvolvimento à colônia japonesa, pouco se falando dos imigrantes e descendentes de outras nacionalidades que estiveram por trás de importantes avanços para a modalidade em seu formato competitivo. Esta pesquisa de caráter historiográfico objetivou estruturar as raízes italianas no tênis de mesa paulistano, a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa e exploratória na literatura pertinente ao tema, aliada a análises documentais em jornais da época disponíveis no website da Hemeroteca Digital. Constatou-se que, entre as décadas de 1910 a 1930, agremiações, dirigentes e jogadores da colônia italiana ocuparam posições de destaque nos círculos esportivos, além de terem sido importantes para o processo de democratização da modalidade.
