Descripción
Sumario:This study’s aim is to calculate and analyze the Symmetric Revealed Comparative Advantage Index of the main agricultural products exported by Brazil. This is a longitudinal quantitative study based on data collected electronically from the home page of the Food and Agriculture Organization and from the Ministry of Industry, Development and Foreign Trade for the period from 2003 to 2014. The calculated results point to a fairly high comparative advantage of products such as soy, sugar, orange juice, and chicken, while maize and cotton show moderate indices. On the other extreme, values for raw materials and processed foods show no comparative advantage, being even negative ones.
