Resumo:This article discusses an extremely controversial and still recent subject in the Brazilian culture and in the clinic and academic environments − the sado-masochism. When discussing the practices and the world sado-masochist's meanings in an introductory, conceptual, critical and scientifically sense, we have invariably to talk on genders roles and power relationships. This article brings some contributions on, as the relationships between masculine and feminine, dominant and dominated become a potent fuel in these said erotic and marginal relationships, independent of ones participants' sexual orientation. Its larger contribution is to question the concept of normality and of disease in the clinic and academic environment
