Descripción
Sumario:This paper brings out the experience of making a geological model in the scale of 1:20,000 of Serra do Caparaó, a complex geological monument of southeastern Brazil, with the objective of illustrating aspects of the geology of the region and defining a routine for the construction of didactic models. Field data and spatial data were used in GIS environment for projection of relief on styrofoam plates from level curves. The preparation of the model has resulted in a three-dimensional model of the geology of Serra do Caparaó and the proposal of a script for the manufacture of didactic models. The first exhibitions of the model to the public stimulated an interaction of society with geological information of the region, being introduced concepts of Geomorphology, Structural Geology, Cartography and Geodiversity.
