| Sumario: | The objective of the research was to analyze the process of economic expansion of the Metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro state, in last the two decades. The formal job was used as proxy to describe the economic growth. To analyze the evolution of employment in the economic activities of this region, the differential-structural method was used. The region, according to the results, showed an economic behavior relatively less dynamic than the other regions, what was reflected in the fall of its participation in the total employment of the state. The low supply of factors to promote competitiveness, the fiscal war, and the expansion of the mineral extraction industry to the interior of the state are, probably, causes of this process. |
