Descripción
Sumario:This bibliographic review article aims to lay out three conceptions about disasters from the sociological point of view. According to the first approach, disasters are the expression of an external and intimidating agent. The second approach translates disasters as the social expression of vulnerability. As for the third one, disasters are seen as the result of an environment of uncertainties brought about by the institutional framework itself. Sociological reflection offers elaborated knowledge about social practical interactions that generate risks and multiple vulnerabilities to address the issue of prevention of disasters and to engender the proper actions required when they occur. Command of the proper terminology and of the usage of the concept of disaster is of paramount importance for the formation of those who intervene in events of damage.
