Descripción
Sumario:Context: This study assesses the occupational health of Military Firefighters in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. Methodology: Using a qualitative-quantitative methodology of explanatory and epidemiological character, the health conditions of these professionals were analyzed in relation to various potentially harmful situations inherent to their work routine. Considerations: The majority of firefighters do not present health complaints (84.7%), chronic diseases (88.7%) or history of family diseases (57.9%). Most do not make chronic use of medication (89.9%) or monitor chronic diseases (93.1%). About 8.9% are undergoing psychological treatment and 21.9% have undergone psychological treatment in the past. The overall average AUDIT scores indicate low-risk alcohol use (2.0). The majority are married or in a stable union (71.7%), have children (60.2%) and have completed high school (35.2%). Although the data suggest that military firefighters enjoy good health, significant differences were detected between those who perform operational and administrative activities.
