Sumario:Background: Diverse motor experiences are of paramount importance in the development of individuals. And for people with disabilities, in addition to contributing to the development of their skills, sport is a means of socializing. Swimming has been one of the most effective motivators, since the activities performed can be facilitated by being in the liquid environment. Objective: To report the experience lived in the Piracema - Swimming Project for people with disabilities, pointing out the stages developed and relevant aspects of this extension project. Methods: The methodology consists of a descriptive study of the activities developed and observed from the experience with people with disabilities participating in the project. Results: It was possible to observe that the activities of the project were studied and planned observing the limitations of the students and seeking a better adaptation of the same to the liquid environment. In this way, the participants were enthusiastic and encouraged to participate in the classes and carry out the activities. Different materials, methods and exercises were used in order to diversify each class, which showed good receptivity of the participants, who were shown to be encouraged to participate. It was also observed the importance in the training of the academics involved who experienced activities associated with training concepts with the practice of acting. Conclusion: It is concluded that aquatic activities for people with disabilities contribute to the social formation of the individual and to the development of their motor and cognitive abilities. In this way, the project is of extreme relevance for the community and for the professionals who will work in this area of knowledge.
