| Sumario: | In this article we reflect on contemporary disputes regarding the memory of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985) through the analysis of the different paths recently taken by one photography. It is an image taken by Evandro Teixeira on June 21, 1968, a day which would be known as "Bloody Friday". Published the day after the episode on the front page of one of the most widely circulated newspapers in the country, this image would become one of the best-known photographic records of this period of the Brazilian history, being continuously reproduced in collages and graphic materials on social media, in newspapers and magazines, videos on YouTube and in great part of television or independent documentaries about the military dictatorship. In the exercise of analyzing and interpreting some of the photographer's most recent uses, we investigate what stories it can reveal and what disputes it gives rise to in the context of political tension that we are currently experiencing in the country. |
