| Sumario: | Galls are structures formed by alterations in the patterns of cell growth and division in host plant organs in response to the activity of different organisms such as bacteria, fungi, nematodes, mites, and, in most cases, insects. The knowledge about galls continues to be disseminated mainly in scientific articles not reaching the general population, which hinders public recognition of the importance of galls for biodiversity. In this context, a mapping about galls was conducted in social networks (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), in order to verify which tools and resources are being employed, which contents have been posted and the response of the public. A total of 96 posts were published from 2016 to 2021, most of which were posted on Instagram (n=63) in 2020 (n=69). The posts included descriptions of morphotypes, dissemination of articles and books, images of galls and videos. Those posts with images were the most frequent (n=41) and had the highest number of likes (n=1,604). The dissemination about galls through social networks is growing, a fact observed by the increase in the number of scientific dissemination channels and posts. |
