| Sumario: | ABSTRACT This article discusses the use of digital archaeology in preserving cultural heritage. It focuses on 3D scanning and modeling techniques for documenting artifacts and structures. A metadata-based indexing system was developed to facilitate data access and retrieval. The resultsd underscore the significance of digital archaeology and enhanced indexing in cultural heritage preservation. These methods allow for precise documentation, contributing to the understanding of regional history and culture. Digitally and interactively available data broadens access to cultural heritage and enables immersive experiences like virtual visits. The study concludes that digital archaeology and cultural heritage indexing are crucial for preservation, documentation, and dissemination of historical and cultural heritage. The Mercedários/UFPA case study illustrates the potential of these approaches and the importance of investing in digital technologies for cultural heritage conservation and appreciation in Brazil. |
