Descripción
Sumario:In 1965 Rosi made The Moment of Truth, a semi-documentary feature film about bullfighting. The Italian director wanted to bring to the screen the tragic lyricism of Death in the Afternoon (Hemingway, 1932). However, some acquaintances from Suevia Film (the Spanish co-producing company of his film La s fida) alerted him about the skepticism in Spain towards the way foreigners regarded the fiesta. Bullfighting experts, in particular -they argued- were weary of the image given of their art as a simple popular entertainment. This article argues how Rosi managed to overcome the prejudices in his approach of the subject of The Moment of Truth with the help of Spanish filmmakers such as Beltran, Portabella, Muhoz Suay and the bullfighter Miguel Mateo "Miguelín". The film is internationally recognized as the most serious study on the socio-cultural aspects of the bullfighting world.
