Descripción
Sumario:João Roberto Faria's study encompasses all the dramaturgy born in the 19th century in Brazil, thematizing the presence of black people in the limelight, as well as their critical reception through the press of the period. They are addressed from the first mentions, through extras without speaking, to their major protagonists, already in the period close to the abolition. The analysis also contemplates the role and function of pro-abolition associations and benefit shows intended for manumission, amateur theater, the participation of artists and theater companies in the movement.
