description This article aims to study The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, observing how the themes of reason and madness are relevant in the structuring of the play, in the development of the tragedy, and in the formation and uniqueness of the characters Hamlet and Ophelia. Our study focuses not only on the prince, but also on the female figure and its representation in the works of art after Shakespeare. Our analytical interest is based on the imaginary surrounding the death of this girl who goes mad with love and probably commits suicide for not being loved by the distressed prince. The link between reason, madness, and death remains the central issue of this article, whose theoretical and methodological reference is based on the study of Northrop Frye and Gaston Bachelard. Besides highlighting the excess of reason and individualism in Hamlet as features of the modern hero, our goal is to expand the delicate and fragile image of the young nymph to its representations and artistic interpretations of later centuries. To this end, we bring Bachelard's thoughts on the image of water in Ophelia's death, as well as the resemanticization of the girl's image in painting, film, and poetry. In our article, we demonstrate the dualistic pair between reason and madness in the play, the valorization of the melancholic and disturbed image of the character Ophelia, as well as her protagonism throughout the centuries.

Nuestro estudio se centra no sólo en el príncipe, sino también en la figura femenina y su representación en las obras de arte posteriores a Shakespeare. Nuestro interés analítico parte del imaginario en torno a la muerte de esta muchacha que enloquece de amor y probablemente se suicida por no haber sido correspondida por el angustiado príncipe. El vínculo entre razón, locura y muerte sigue siendo la cuestión central de este artículo, cuyo marco teórico y metodológico se basa en el estudio de Northrop Frye y Gaston Bachelard. Además de destacar el exceso de razón e individualismo en Hamlet, características del héroe moderno, nuestro objetivo es ampliar la imagen delicada y frágil de la joven ninfa a sus representaciones, es decir, interpretaciones en las artes de siglos posteriores. Para ello, traemos el pensamiento de Bachelard sobre la imagen del agua en la muerte de Ofelia, además de la resemantización de la imagen de la joven en la pintura, el cine y la poesía. En nuestro artículo, mostramos el par dualista entre razón y locura en la obra, la valorización poética de la imagen melancólica y perturbada del personaje Ofelia, así como su protagonismo a lo largo de los siglos.Este artigo tem como objetivo estudar A tragédia de Hamlet, príncipe da Dinamarca, observando como as temáticas razão e loucura são relevantes na estruturação da peça, no desenvolvimento da tragédia e na formação e singularidade dos personagens Hamlet e Ofélia. Nosso estudo tem como foco não somente o príncipe, mas também a figura feminina e sua representação em obras de arte posteriores a Shakespeare. Nosso interesse analítico parte do imaginário em torno da morte dessa moça que enlouquece por amor e provavelmente se suicida por não ter sido correspondida pelo angustiado príncipe. O elo entre razão, loucura e morte permanece como questão central deste artigo, cujo referencial teórico-metodológico é baseado no estudo de Northrop Frye e de Gaston Bachelard. Além de ressaltar o excesso de razão e individualismo em Hamlet, características do herói moderno, nosso objetivo é expandir a imagem delicada e frágil da jovem ninfa para as suas representações, ou seja, interpretações nas artes dos séculos posteriores. Para isso, trouxemos o pensamento de Bachelard sobre a imagem da água na morte de Ofélia, além da ressemantização da imagem da moça na pintura, no cinema e na poesia.
