Descripción
Sumario:Having as theoretical foundation the concepts of ethnogenesis and territorialization, and using documentary and bibliographic sources, this text aims to present a summary of the historical trajectory of the Pataxó people and their relationship with the colonial State, throughout the nineteenth century in the former Captaincy of Porto Seguro, (now the Extreme South of Bahia). Thus, it is intended to understand how the colonization process and the indigenist policy of compulsory settlement contributed to boosting interethnic contact relations, promoting ethnic reconfigurations that gave rise to the contemporary Pataxó identity, through the territorialization of the population in the vicinity of Monte Pascoal , where the former Aldeamento Belo Jardim was built, where the indigenous village of Barra Velha is located today.
