| Sumario: | This text presents the results of an investigation carried out in the quilombola communities of Laranjal and the District of Cangas, located in Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brazil, based on the implementation of affirmative action policies at the Federal University of Mato Grosso. The approach method combines bibliographic research and the technique of document analysis from institutional documents. The Quilombola Student Inclusion Program (PROINQ), which offered 100 annual places with the aim of allowing the inclusion of quilombola students in Higher Education for a period of ten years starting in 2017, is examined. CONSEPE Resolution no. 101/2016, which established PROINQ, is used as a data source, as well as bibliographic references to support the analyses. Perceptions of young people remaining from quilombola communities about education are highlighted, considering the challenges faced in accessing and remaining in higher education. The importance of the educational cycle associated with affirmative action policies is highlighted, with an understanding of contributions to the inclusion and empowerment of youth and quilombola communities in the locations under study. From a historiographical research perspective, it is argued that affirmative action policies represent a response to the historical inequalities faced by marginalized groups, such as quilombola peoples, as a guarantee of equitable access to higher education. In summary, PROINQ emerged as a concrete initiative in this sense, promoting the inclusion of these students in an academic environment far from their social and cultural realities. The Program made it possible to significantly increase the access of young quilombolas to university, representing a break with historical barriers of exclusion. In relation to the young quilombolas of Laranjal and the District of Cangas, it is concluded that the greatest difficulty in accessing higher education is linked to the challenges experienced with financial issues and the financial investment necessary to reside outside their locations. |
