Sumario:At the present time the media transmit values and ideals pointing to promote image, youth, appearance, the “showing”, thus giving preponderance to the aesthetic and the visuals, and leaving in an absolute secondary place the ethical aspects. In this scenario what is the place offered to the subject who is aging? In this short essay we want to reflect on the impact of cultural ideals from the elderly's subjectivity viewpoint since social discourse statements do have an influence in the self-identification process that gives meaning to the subject’s being and doings.
