| Resumo: | What is the essence of Applied Linguistics? What is your contribution to Portuguese language teaching and teacher training? What is your relationship with literacy? Based on these questions, we aim to investigate the contributions of Applied Linguistics to the teaching and learning of the Portuguese language from the perspective of literacies and teacher training. For this purpose, we rely on the theoretical assumptions of Lopes (2006, 2013, 2019), Cavalcanti (2013), Bohn (2013), Rojo (2019), Soares (2006), Kleiman (2013, 2019) and Kalantzis (2020). Our research has a qualitative and bibliographic approach, supported by Marconi and Lakatos (2013) and Gil (2019). The results indicate that the school needs to promote a transforming education with meaningful and plural learning situations. |
