| Sumario: | Fibromyalgia is characterized as a chronic disease and is considered idiopathic, therefore, its etiology is still unknown. It presents symptoms resulting from several factors and this wide clinical picture results in an absence of diagnoses as well as a specific treatment. To evaluate the advantages of using acupuncture in the treatment of fibromyalgia. This is an integrative literature review, carried out from 19 articles published between 2001 and 2020, in Portuguese and English, searched in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Google Scholar and Latin Literature databases -American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS). It was observed that acupuncture is a therapeutic practice, in which it considers the individual as a set of energies, with this, it aims to treat any energetic and organic imbalances in their entirety. It was found that offering this technique to individuals with fibromyalgia had an important reduction in pain, in addition to influencing the outcome of the patient’s clinical improvement. It is understood, therefore, that acupuncture is effective in significantly reducing the intensity of pain and the amount of tender points in a patient with fibromyalgia, in order to improve the patient’s quality of life. |
