Sumario:Clothing for fat people presents several problems: one of the issues to be highlighted is the low commercialization offer in the city of Fortaleza, state of Ceará. There is no significant supply of brands for fat people in Fortaleza local trade, when we compared with stores to the slim public. This article is part of a research related to the PhD in Design, University of Lisbon (ULisboa). We do not use words obesity or overweight because they are generally aimed at people with health problems. We aim, from a theoretical discussion – by highlighting authors such as Aires, Gurgel, Ribeiro, and Jimenez – to analyse a social construction of the body of thin and fat women, when discussing the use of the words curvy, fat, plus size, and obese. These words comprehend social issues should precede easy access to fat women clothing consistent with their body, without suffering discrimination due to a standard body, a thin body, exalted by fat-phobic society.
