| Sumario: | The inaccurate sizing of plastic conduits of adduction makes the system vulnerable to the water hammer. The use of more accurate models for the description of the performance of conduits conduces to significant improvements in its sizing. Thus, this research proposes an adaptation of the viscoelastic model to pressurized conduits exposed to transients generated by pump failure. For testing purposes, the model was implemented in a computational module, used for simulation of water hammer in adductors. The simulations were performed under a hypothetical adductor composed by an upstream pump, a downstream reservoir and conduits of PVC material. The results confirmed the expected effects of attenuation and dispersion of the pressure wave, indicating that the predictions based on viscoelastic model results in an economically less expensive sizing. |
