| Sumario: | The paper aims to identify the vulnerability of seafarers in the event of major repercussions, such as the one with the merchant ship Ever Given in the Suez Canal. It analyzes the systematics of open registers in the current scenario of the shipping industry from the perspective of the complexity of the relations that gravitate around the operation of merchant ships and the impacts on maritime labor relations. Based on the identification of the recruitment process for these professionals, and the absence of a genuine link between the flag supplier countries and the vessel owners, the control of the Flag State is weakened, contributing to the risk of seafarers being held responsible for the occurrence of accidents with economic repercussions. |
