| Resumo: | Oral proficiency assessment is a recurrent theme in teacher education literature. Grammatical accuracy is one of the components of oral teaching proficiency, having served as an appropriate criteria to define the notion of proficiency operationally. This paper sets forth oral performative data from the EPPLE (Proficiency Examination for Foreign Language Teachers) through the application of EBBs (Empirically derived, Binary-choice, Boundary definition scales), thus producing empirically verifiable criteria. These criteria have set forth a set of analytical and empirically verifiable proficiency bands while incorporating the Surface Strategy Taxonomy, which in turn guides the candidate and stimulates their linguistic metacognition. |
