Sumario:The present study addresses phytotherapeutic medications, with an emphasis on the Living Pharmacy, analyzing their advantages and disadvantages in treating various health conditions. The general objective was to discuss what phytotherapeutic medications are and their benefits, in addition to exploring the importance of the Living Pharmacy in the context of public health. The research utilized a qualitative methodology, based on a literature review of publications from the last ten years, focused on scientific and academic sources. Throughout the work, the characteristics of phytotherapeutics, their regulation, and the benefits offered, such as the preservation of traditional knowledge, sustainability, and accessibility for low-income populations, were highlighted. However, risks related to indiscriminate use, possible drug interactions, and lack of toxicological knowledge of some plant mixtures were pointed out. The study concluded that, although phytotherapeutics are a promising therapeutic alternative, responsible and supervised use is necessary, as well as the strengthening of scientific research to ensure the safety and efficacy of treatments. Furthermore, the expansion of studies on drug interactions and the implementation of public policies that ensure greater quality control in the production of phytotherapeutics were recommended.
