| Sumario: | The article presents the history of chess in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, based on reports and narratives from chess players. The research considers the period from 1980, when chess practices and press releases about the sport were abundant, to 1989, the year of the last publication analyzed by this research on the subject. Methodologically, we used principles of Thematic Oral History, applying a semi-structured script to conduct the interviews, following Alberti (2004) and Meihy (2005), oral historians and proponents of the comprehensive approach of the social framework. From memories, we notice how societies and subjects are shaped by values and the perpetuation of traditions and customs, leading to the transformation of identity. |
