Sumario:The participation of children in global migration processes is still an unexplored field in research on childhoods in Brazil. The field of both national and international migration studies has focused its research on labour relations, giving little or no visibility to children. Nevertheless, migrant children continue to have diverse experiences in their displacement and are also exposed to violence caused by racism and social marginalisation in their destination places. In the Brazilian case, in addition to the fact that migratory flows bring new structural challenges, the current situation has opened up the possibility of rethinking socio-cultural myths such as that of “racial democracy”. In this context, this article presents part of a research in progress, aiming to identify the presence of migrant children from African countries in the early childhood education network in the city of São Paulo, Brazil between 2009 and 2019 and analyse the scope of their presence in the public network of early childhood education in the city of São Paulo. Then, aspects of transnational migration, related to racial issues and to the occupation of territories, particularly in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, are addressed. In addition, data on children between 0 and 6 years of age in educational institutions of the São Paulo public network are examined, based on the Dados Abertos Portal, of the City Hall of the Municipality. As a result, the issues found are discussed as elements of relevance to expand the field of studies on children under seven years of age in a situation of migration.
