Descrição
Resumo:The Working Group on Sociolinguistics of the Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Letras e Linguística, since its origin, has brought together researchers related to studies on Geolinguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics. These are projects that often address specific communities and explain language use not only as the identity of a given group, but as the identity of a people. Many of these studies are focused on one of the most central areas to understand the diversity of language in Brazil: phonology. Several variables have been analyzed throughout the country – phonological processes related to vowels, consonants, syllables, etc., many of them evidencing the identity of different speech communities. In this article, from studies conducted in Geolinguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics, the objective is to present an overview of how three selected variables behave in some regions of Brazil. Considering the large number of variables analyzed by members of the WG, the selected variables are the mid-vowels in pretonic position, the coronal fricatives in syllabic coda /s, z/ and the alveolar/dental stops /t, d/. The result of this analysis makes clear the inter-complementarity of the two areas towards the understanding of Brazilian Portuguese.
