Resumo:Boron is required in small amounts by crops and the decision to apply adequate soil intakes is vital to increase crop productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of supplementation with boron at sowing and tillering on the agronomic characteristics and physiological quality of barley seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial design (Factor A: application at sowing and in full tillering; Factor B: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 kg ha-1 of boron), totaling 12 treatments, with four replications. After harvesting, the following ratings were assessed: number of spike per plant, number of seeds per spike, seed yield per plant, hectoliter weight, thousand seed weight, boron foliar contents, first germination counting, germination, accelerated aging, cold test, aerial length and root. The data were submitted to compare means by Tukey test and to polynomial regression in probability level of 5%. The conclusion is that the leaf content increases, by raising the boron content available in the soil. Supplementation of boron up to 5 kg ha-1, at sowing or at tillering, impairs productivity and seed quality.
