Descripción
Sumario:The present study seeks to make some reflections on the theme: being a woman at the height of the Christian institution of the Holy Inquisition and the social and gender aspect linked to the archetype of the infamous “witch” so persecuted by the inquisitors. Plunging into the waters of the imagery built by the Catholic Church to argue the “natural” inferiority of the female gender and its preponderance to the maleficent through the most widespread demonological treaty in European civil society, Malleus Maleficarum, the difference of this 15th century work being its misogynistic content which contributed to the shift of focus from the heretics to witches inquisition. In this sense, it is intended to explore how justifications used to promote a persecution that led women to a bonfire for crimes of “witchcraft”.
