Sumario:This study had as a goal to verify the performance of 140 first grade students and, by means a psychometric study, to investigate the most evaluated abilities in the followings tests: Teste Metropolitano de Prontidão (TMP), Teste Diagnóstico das Habilidades do Pré-Escolar (DHP), Teste de Prontidão para a Leitura (TPL) e Instrumento de Avaliação do Repertório Básico para a Alfabetização (lAR): Significant superiority was noted among the uppermiddle class students and those who attended preschool. The most dlfficult subtests for the lower-middle class students were those concerned with numericaJ abilities and reasoning: analysis-synthesis. The tests evaluated primarily numerical and visual-motor coordination abilities; secondy verbal and perceptive abilities and finally reasoning: analys-synthesis abllities.
