| Sumario: | Urbanization is a complex phenomenon whose reflection encompasses different fields of knowledge. The problematization of this process considers biases and nuances at national, regional and local levels, highlighting the interconnections between these contexts. With regard to small cities, these studies are structured from different references that condition their endogenous and exogenous dynamics. The city of Colinas do Tocantins is part of the context of small towns in the Legal Amazon. Our hypothesis is that although it is located next to works resulting from government plans for development, it still suffers from sensitive inequalities and weaknesses in the indicators and social indices characteristic of Brazilian municipalities and in this study notably those located in the legal Amazon. From this perspective, we base the theoretical discussion based on the analysis of the urbanization process in the Amazon in the light of national development plans, academic production on the city of Colinas; and methodological, we used secondary data with social and economic indices of regional insertion and internal dynamics (SEPLAN, QEdu, IBGE, CadÚnico). We conclude that the context presented for a small city in the legal Amazon reflects disparities similar to those observed in the macro-region in which it is inserted. |
