| Sumario: | Analyzes current Latin-American Journals ofLibrary and Information Science which produce articles ofacademic quality. From 1990 to 1998, 35journalspublished in 11 diferent countries were identified. Ofthese countries, Brazil and Mexico publish the majority ofthesejournals; 56% ofthem are less than ten years old, but 5 ofthem are between 26 and 30 years old which indicates that are well established in thefield; 53% ofthem are published by library associations and schools oflibrary science with no graduate courses. Schools wich offer graduate •courses (Master and Ph. D) and research centersjointlypublish 8journals, since thesejournals are mostfamiliar with the doxa ofthefield, they Will be usuallyperceived as the bestjournals by academia. Thesejournals are preferably published semi-annually, and only a reduced number of them are indexed by American or English bibliographic databases, however, INFOBILA index and disseminates most ofthem. There was also identified a tendency to become electronic publications. At present, 6 ofthem offer full text and 3 only summaries. |
