Summary:This work is inscribed on the list of studies that aim to contribute to the understanding of the questions about coping with and fighting against poverty and adversity. Having this perspective in focus, we performed a study with babassu nut breakers in the Parrot's Beak region. As a point of analysis, this study resorted to the concept of recognition as autoreconhecimento factor, interface with the concept of resilience. Our objective was to determine whether the recognition has some relationship with the resilience of these subjects. The results indicate that there is a relationship between recognition, social identity and resilience of these groups. In this sense, there is a greater coping ability adversity and resulting activity, or the social context in question, when individuals feel recognized for their skills and qualities.
