Sumario:The article deals with how television fiction, in particular the Brazilian telenovela, has dealt successfully with social themes that are difficult to solve, such as homosexuality, corruption, drugs, cancer, among others. It has also mobilized the population towards discussion, searching for support for behavioral changes. Fiction deals with reality based on its specificity, but it is up to the social forces to cause change. The author also emphasizes the Brazilian telenovela as unique product of its type, stressing its technical and thematic quality when compared to the other cultural products aired by TV.
