| Sumario: | Through a bibliographic research, this article aims at clarifying the role of psychoanalysis within the field of sexual sciences. In modern times, sex came to be considered as an expression of internal aspects of individuals, necessitating a scientific classification. The transformation of sex into a subject of study has given rise to a sexual science, which can be divided into two periods: the first and the second sexology. The first sexology focused primarily on the examination of anomalies in the sexual instinct, particularly in relation to perversions. In contrast, the second phase shifted its focus from the study of sexual deviations in the perverse person to an investigation of everyday sexuality as practiced by ordinary individuals. The authors argue that Psychoanalysis, which since its inception has understood sexuality as one of the foundations of the human psyche, moves in a direction opposed to the one taken by the sexual science since it aims to understand sexuality beyond behavior and physical symptoms. |
