Descripción
Sumario:The article investigates the understanding and apprehension of five consumers of a journalistic event produced in immersive format in 360 degrees, in the piece "Rio de Lama: A maior tragédia ambiental do Brasil". It is qualitative research, in the case study modality, focused on immersive consumption, with Virtual Reality glasses and headphones, and content analysis. As a theoretical basis, it is anchored on the concepts of immersion imersão (Aronson-Raht et al., 2015; Domínguez, 2013a, 2015, 2017), sense of presence (Domínguez, 2013a; De La Peña et al., 2010; Slater and Wilbur, 1997) and empathy (Domínguez, 2013a; Sirkkunen et al., 2016; Steinfeld, 2019; Bujic et al., 2020). The research finds that the consumption of the immersive 360-degree journalistic piece with different VR glasses technologies results in a different understanding of the event. The sense of presence and empathy are pointed out as key elements to generate connection and sensitivity to the real event.
