| Resumo: | This article analyzes the use of the general extender e tals, a discourse-pragmatic element which functions include category marking and requesting solidarity. A general extender is a lexical item that usually occurs at the end of a sentence, consisting of a conjunction plus a noun phrase. They are present in a wide variety of languages, and have been more studied in English and Spanish. We tested the hypothesis that the item is undergoing a process of grammaticalization on X (Twitter), a social network which presents a language with many marks of orality and informality, and is a very representative corpus of the young language of contemporary Brazilian Portuguese in the first half of the 21st century. Four stages of semantic-pragmatic change of the general extender e tals were tested, and the three that were found were the most evolved in relation to multifunctionality, subjectivity and abstraction, among other aspects. |
