Descripción
Sumario:This article analyses aspects of the rural education, thematic and still little investigated in the scope of Education History, from the catholic newspaper A Palavra (The Word), a newspaper associated to the Diocese of Pelotas, RS, Brazil, published from 1912 to 1959. The research has its bases on Cultural History, emhphasizing the newspaper as a potential influence on the ideas, values and behavior taught by the Church in formal and non-formal environments of education. The conclusion is that the newspaper, during the analized period, had a crucial pedagogic role. Reproducing an educational triad based on the proposals of the “Rural Weeks”, the Education Radio and the Land Reform, supported by the State, the newspaper indicates possibilities towards the catholic main role on the theme involving rural education.
