Descripción
Sumario:In this study, we address the importance and outcomes of the extension project “Journalism and Finance: Production of the Homemade Surplus website”, developed within the Journalism program at the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL). According to the evaluation by the American research institute Gallup Poll, Brazil ranks 68th in terms of financial literacy worldwide. With these data, combined with the concepts of Basile (2002), Caldas (2008) and Kucinski (1996) about economic journalism and microeconomics, the extension project, initiated in 2022, averages 4,000 monthly accesses, fostering closer ties between the university and the community through reading and interaction with the audience. By bringing economic journalism to society, the project strengthens the mission of institutions to contribute to the social and economic development of the country.
