Sumario:The article analyzes challenges in the process of guiding critical qualitative researchers in postgraduate studies in public/collective health based on the experiences of a Brazilian researcher and a Colombian researcher. The meaning of “critical” is discussed and how this concept has been used in the health field, in order to define what is meant by a critical qualitative researcher. Next, the authors reflect on their experiences in their respective programs, indicating potentialities and challenges in the process, as well as strategies they use to develop this complex mission.
